Whilst strictly speaking not vernacular photographs, these images definitely have the feel of amateur setups (and are probably all the better for it). I’m hoping to explore the fascinating world of ‘vernacular’ more over coming months. Photo-montage of Obren Pjevović sitting on a satellite anyone?

None of these are pop-stars. These are all folk singers, mostly unknown ones.
Hahaha – perfect irony.
When it seems that we’ve left those times behind, such ghosts are still around us…
Talking nonsense, amusing but defocusing reality.
Most of these images/albums are from the Balkans right? Can you recognise the language and countries?
More to the point, have you got any of them!?
After I saw those vernacular works (cows, opening scenes…) at your place, I better understand value of covers like this. Those are mostly old Serbian folk starts.
Reincarnation of such direct funny raw moments I have found recently on Balkanika TV channel (http://www.balkanika.tv). All over Balkan, from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania to Turkey there are synthetically produced glamorous videos with hilarious seriousness and sometimes popping irony. Rap gang golden chicks the Balkan way. Even so, link with past is still there.
I guess they are all from Serbia (maybe some other ex-Yugoslavia countries, too). I have never heard for them, except for Tozovac (here sitting on a canon). He is very popular folk singer in Serbia, ex Bosnia and Montenegro…
Hi,
The guy sitting on the canon (Tozovac) classic photo to what is probably a classic album.
Actually I love all these photos, without laughing at any of them. I genuinely feel there is much creativity in there – they are very distinctive and I love the color saturation.
Thanks for your comment,
Craig
Yes, that song was very popular. It is about first Allies (in this case: Serbian) victory over Austria-Hungarian army 🙂
